Our Guest Designer - Kelly from Notable Nest

I was so excited and honored when my super-talented and artistic friend Alexandra asked me to join Scrap Rendez-Vous to share a sketch and some cards! I do need to admit, however, that sketches are the most challenging for me to use as inspiration. So the one I'm sharing with you today is a pretty simple one, yet one that should allow you a lot of flexibility for interpretation.

Kelly's blog / blog de Kelly:  Notable Nest

Basically, it's three elements grounded by a strip, a border and a sentiment. Let's see some cards using this basic formula!
Le croquis de Kelly est assez simple, il s'agit d'une suite de trois éléments placé sur une bande avec une bordure. Voici maintenant plusieurs illustrations de ce croquis...

This one is a very literal interpretation. I got the idea from a T-shirt logo we're doing for my son's elementary school (instead of coffee at the end, we have their school mascot). I'm picturing this card as a gift card holder for Starbucks. But you could swap out the coffee icon for anything ... birthday cake, volleyball, ballet shoes, scissors, really anything that the recipient is passionate about.

For the icons, I die-cut them four times out of chipboard to pop them up. This came about because I wanted to give them dimension, but was stuck with how to use foam tape on the thin lines of the peace sign. Really like the focus it gives. The small green flower with the black center gives the idea of a Starbucks logo.

This baby card has a lot of texture to give the feeling of a comfy baby blanket. The stars with the sentiment are tied to the top layer of Memory Box Trellis Border dies, and then stuck loosely in the trellis die.

There are three layers of trellis dies, all offset from each other. I like the texture and dimension it gives, like a knit baby blanket.

This last card makes use of a graph circle mask used three time across the strip. I wanted to scatter the very trendy sequins across the design, but this card with its teenage boy sentiment asked for something more clean. So I used the tiny middles of the Memory Box Delicate Chain die. Very convenient that they were still on my desk from the chevron flower card I was working on at the time. Sometimes it pays not to have a clean workspace!

I sponged Hero Arts Neon Ink through the circle graph mask, and then tilted the mask slightly and sponged another color ink. That gave solid rings in different colors, vs. the graphed rings.

Here are all three cards with their inspiration sketch. I sure hope you'll create some cards too, can't wait to see what you come up with!
Kelly et l'équipe attendent vos cartes avec impatience!

Thanks so much for having me!
